WhiskeyWorth Privacy Policy

The short version: by default, WhiskeyWorth collects nothing. Everything you do in the app stays on your device. We run no analytics, use no tracking, and embed no third-party SDKs. The one exception is a feature you have to choose to use — submitting a bottle photo for the catalog — described below.

What stays on your device

All of the following is stored only on your iPhone, in the app’s private storage and the iOS Keychain. It is never transmitted to us or anyone else:

Your account — email address and display name
Your password — salted, hashed, and kept in the Keychain; it is never stored in readable form and never leaves the device
Your collection, hunting list, and finished bottles
Your tasting notes, ratings, and bottle photos

Because this data never reaches us, we cannot see it, share it, sell it, or recover it — it is yours alone.

The app’s only network activity

WhiskeyWorth downloads its public whiskey catalog (bottle names, prices, tasting notes) and bottle images from our hosted database and image service. These requests carry no personal information and no identifiers — only a public, read-only access key that is identical for every copy of the app. Our database is configured so devices can only read from it.

Submitting a bottle photo (optional)

If a bottle has no catalog image, you can offer your own photo. This is the only feature that sends anything to us, and it never happens without your explicit consent at the moment of submission. When you submit:

The photo is uploaded to our database, stored privately, and linked to a random, anonymous identifier for your device — not your name and not your email, which we never receive.
A human reviews every submission. Approved photos become the bottle’s public catalog image — displayed, cropped, resized, or background-removed as needed, exactly as the consent notice states. Rejected photos are never published.
You can withdraw a submission in the app while it is pending. To have an already-approved image removed from the catalog, email us and we will take it down.

Sign in with Apple

If you choose Sign in with Apple, Apple shares the name and email you approve (which may be a private relay address). That information is used to create your on-device account and is stored only on your device, like every other account.

Deleting your data

Account → Delete Account erases your account and everything attached to it — collection, notes, ratings, and photos — immediately and permanently. Deleting the app from your phone removes the same data.

Age requirement

WhiskeyWorth is intended for people of legal drinking age (21+ in the United States). It is an informational app: it sells nothing and facilitates no purchase or transfer of alcohol.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of the app ever adds features that share data off your device (such as community ratings), we will update this policy and the App Store privacy details first, and the app will ask for your consent in plain language before anything is sent.
